Rustic Engagement Session – Norfolk Photographer

Today I have a lovely little engagement session to share with you! Brian and Natalie were referred to my by another couple who I shot for a few months back – it’s actually the third engagement session referral I’ve had from Portsmouth Naval Hospital in the past six months! There must be something in the water over there, ha ha. But I have loved every one – so keep ’em coming Portsmouth!

I chatted with Brian about the type of session they were interested in and we settled on the rustic atmosphere at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield. I always love shooting at this park, but it can be crawling with photographers much of the year. When I first started shooting there a few years back, it was a hidden gem. It has since become quite a popular spot for sessions. In February though, I knew we wouldn’t have to worry about tripping over people during our session. Fortunately, it turned out to be a fairly warm day for our engagement session. We did have to dodge a few rain drops, but even that couldn’t dampen the flame between these two!

My first wedding of 2016 was quite a unique event. One that was full of amazing moments, lots of laughter, joyful dancing and once-in-a-lifetime memories. Kayleigh and James were married in January at a surprise wedding! Yes, you read that right. Family and friends thought they were attending a party – a reunion of sorts- but they got a huge surprise as they were being ushered from cocktail hour to the dining room. Kayleigh’s parents announced that they were actually attending  a wedding instead! The ceremony began promptly after the announcement was made and there was hardly a dry eye in the house.

It was such an honor and a joy to document this amazing event, which was held at Sweetwater Cuisine in Virginia Beach, VA. Ohhh, how I love Sweetwater Cuisine! Everything they do is beautifully appointed and the catering service is top-notch. They sure know how to serve up deliciousness in style. And oh my, every dish is divine. (Don’t get me started on the mac and cheese – just do yourself a favor and go get some!)

Kayleigh and James were married in a quaint ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends. Today I am sharing some of my favorite moments from their beautiful winter wedding. Enjoy!

Small family weddings are some of my favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love a grand affair complete will opulent details and sweeping views of a stunning venue. But a quaint gathering of those you hold most dear on your wedding day is sometimes all you need. 

I had the honor of shooting this gorgeous Sandbridge beach cottage wedding for Lindsay and Brandon. With the help of family and friends, they were able to plan the whole thing from North Dakota. And you know what? It was perfect. Down to every last detail, this destination beach wedding with blue and silver accents was simply perfect. 

We were blessed with a beautiful blue sky, warm sunshine, and a gentle breeze. The beach cottage decor was accented by simple elegant touches and beautiful white florals. And oh the warmth and love surrounding this union was palpable! It really was a perfect day and I couldn't be happier for Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Sandbridge Family Photographer - Lifestyle Beach Sessions

As a Virginia Beach photographer, not only do I enjoy amazing views of the shore from "the office" but I am blessed to meet many wonderful families each summer! A large portion of my portrait sessions are shot at Sandbridge beach, or the Virginia Beach oceanfront, for families who wish to capture happy memories of their summer vacation by the shore. 

Many of the families I photograph are large groups of extended families who come together to relax and reconnect. Often grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles are all together for the first time in quite a while. It is always an honor to capture these awesome memories for them. I strive to document their relationships in an authentic way that provides them with beautiful and meaningful images to enjoy for years to come.

I am excited that summer is nearly here! My calendar is filling up with family sessions, engagement shoots and weddings. I can't wait to create more beautiful beach memories and photograph them all!

Hampton Roads Photographer Yorktown Engagement Session

Shean an Marliana were best friends before they ever started dating. When we met over coffee for our  wedding consultation, it was heartwarming to see how relaxed and comfortable they are together. I could tell the bond between these two ran deep. At our engagement session in Yorktown, they joked and laughed the whole way through. Their warmth and lightheartedness made for an easy-breezy session. Even though the waterfront wind was quite chilly, these two stuck it together like champs. Their playful, upbeat nature took kicked the cold aside and their love became the star of the show. 

Their sweet puppy made her photographic debut on Yorktown beach!

Then we headed inland a bit to get out of the breeze.
